A vehicle brought into NSW from another state or territory needs a blue slip before it can be registered here, even if its interstate rego is still current. After that, it’s one visit to a Service NSW centre.
Why it needs a blue slip
Service NSW lists a vehicle brought in from another state or territory as one that needs an Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection (AUVIS) report, the blue slip, before it can be registered in NSW. It also says a vehicle kept or garaged in NSW without NSW registration is considered unregistered.
The order to do it in
- Blue slip. Book an inspection and bring the vehicle in. The report is valid for 42 days.
- CTP insurance. Arrange a NSW green slip.
- Service NSW. Lodge the application at a service centre.
What Service NSW asks you to bring
- a completed Application for Registration (form 1009)
- proof of identity
- proof you’re entitled to register the vehicle
- the original blue slip, issued no more than 42 days before
- the original interstate number plates
- CTP insurance
- a compliance certificate if the vehicle has been modified
Getting it to us
If the vehicle counts as unregistered in NSW, you can drive it by the most direct route to the inspection when you’re getting it registered. Keep your booking confirmation with you. Driving an unregistered car to your inspection explains what that covers.
A blue slip with us is $82 for a car, SUV, ute or van and $51 for a motorbike, at 196 Parramatta Road, Auburn.
