Terms and conditions

Last updated: 5 November 2026

These terms and conditions (the “Terms”) apply to every booking made with Blue Slip Today (“BST”), whether online, by telephone or in person (a “Booking”). Blue Slip Today is a business name of PSA Automotive Pty Ltd (ABN 40 674 714 151). In these Terms, “the Customer” means the person who makes the Booking or approves the Quote, “the Services” means the work BST carries out for the Customer, “the Vehicle” means the vehicle to which the Booking relates, and “the Workshop” means BST’s workshop at 196 Parramatta Road, Auburn NSW 2144. By making a Booking, including by booking online, the Customer agrees to these Terms. These Terms form part of the work authorisation the Customer gives BST. The details of any work other than an inspection booked online, including the items, the total and the parts, are set out in the quote and authorisation BST sends to the Customer or provides at the Workshop (the “Quote”).

Written authorisation. BST will not commence any work other than the inspection booked, or vary work once commenced, without the Customer’s written authorisation. A reply by SMS or email is sufficient. Verbal approval alone is not. The Customer should raise anything that is unclear with BST before giving approval.

1. Scope and variations

The Services are limited to the inspection booked and the items listed in the Quote. BST will not perform “catch-all” work or undefined additional jobs. If, in the course of the Services, BST identifies additional items requiring attention, BST will:

  • stop work on the additional item;
  • contact the Customer with a description and price; and
  • not proceed until the Customer has given written approval (by SMS or email).

The Customer will not be charged for any additional work the Customer has not authorised.

2. Fixed quotes and estimates

Fixed quote: the total stated in the Quote is the price the Customer will pay, provided no variations are authorised. BST bears the risk of underestimating parts or time.

Estimate: the total is BST’s best assessment, and the final price may vary. BST will not exceed the estimate by more than 10% without first contacting the Customer for written authorisation.

3. Categories A and B

Where the Services relate to a safety inspection, each item in the Quote is marked A or B. A (rectification) is work required for the Vehicle to pass. The Customer is at all times free to have that work carried out by any licensed repairer and to re-present the Vehicle. B (advisory) is a recommendation only and does not affect the inspection result. No inspection outcome is at any time conditional on the Customer accepting any work from BST.

4. Parts

BST uses the category of parts the Customer selects when approving the work. Where a part is unavailable in the selected category, BST will contact the Customer before substituting it.

Replaced parts: BST will return replaced parts to the Customer, dispose of them, or hold them for collection, as the Customer requests. Parts not collected within 7 days may be disposed of at BST’s discretion.

5. Workmanship guarantee

BST guarantees its workmanship for 3 months or 5,000 km, whichever occurs first. Parts are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty terms. This guarantee is in addition to, and does not limit, the Customer’s rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

6. Payment and cancellation

By making a Booking or approving a Quote, the Customer agrees to pay for the work BST carries out. A Booking made online, for an inspection or other work, is confirmed when it is made, and no payment is taken online. The inspection fee is paid at the Workshop, by cash or card, once the inspection is done. Other work, including work booked online at a set or starting price, is paid when it is done, and payment is due on completion, before the Vehicle is released. Work booked online without a price is quoted before BST starts it. Any additional work requires the Customer’s written approval. Prices include GST. BST accepts cash, card, EFT and, for commercial customers, approved account terms, under which payment is due by the date stated on the invoice.

The fee is for the inspection, not the result: a Booking for a blue slip or pink slip is for the inspection. It is not a purchase of a pass. Once the inspection is done, the inspection fee is payable whether the Vehicle passes or fails, and the Customer may not refuse or withhold payment because the Vehicle failed. If the Vehicle fails, a second inspection within 14 days incurs no inspection fee (see clause 11).

Non-payment: a Customer who is unable to pay on the day should inform BST at the Workshop or contact BST so that the matter can be resolved. If an amount, including an inspection fee, remains unpaid after BST has sent the invoice and a reminder:

  • it remains a debt owed by the Customer to BST;
  • BST may decline further Bookings from the Customer until it is paid;
  • BST may refer it to a debt collection agency, or take legal action to recover it; and
  • the Customer may be required to pay the reasonable costs of recovering it, to the extent permitted by law.

If the Customer considers an amount to be incorrect, the Customer should notify BST as soon as possible and BST will investigate. Nothing in this clause prevents the Customer from disputing a charge.

If the Customer cancels after parts have been ordered or work has commenced, the cost of parts ordered (less any restocking credit BST is able to recover) and labour incurred to that point are payable.

Changing a Booking: a Customer who needs to change or cancel a Booking should telephone BST on 1300 693 017 as early as possible, and BST will do what it can to move it.

Late arrival: a Customer who arrives after the booked time will be attended to once BST has finished with the customers booked at that time.

Other work found during an inspection: if the technician identifies other work, the technician will quote it first. The Customer may decline that quote and pay only the inspection fee. Nothing in this clause limits the Customer’s rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

7. Inspection independence

Where the Services relate to a safety inspection under the Authorised Inspection Scheme (a blue slip, pink slip or eSafety check), the inspection outcome is determined solely against the relevant Transport for NSW standards. No repair quote, including any quote from BST, is a condition of the inspection result. The Customer may obtain any required repair work from any licensed repairer of the Customer’s choosing.

The Inspection Rules (clause 8) also prohibit BST from leading the Customer to believe that the Vehicle requires paid repairs to pass when it does not. Transport for NSW may refer any such case to NSW Fair Trading.

8. Inspection rules

Blue slip and pink slip inspections are carried out under the Authorised Inspection Scheme (the “Scheme”), which is administered by Transport for NSW. Every inspection BST carries out takes place at the Workshop and follows the Scheme’s Business Rules for Authorised Proprietors and Authorised Examiners (opens in a new tab) and the Light Vehicle Safety Check Standards (opens in a new tab). In these Terms, those documents are together referred to as the “Inspection Rules”. To the extent of any inconsistency between these Terms and the Inspection Rules, the Inspection Rules prevail.

A blue slip also checks the Vehicle’s identity and that the Vehicle meets the standards to be registered in NSW. BST does not carry out mobile inspections.

Inspection fees: BST follows Transport for NSW’s Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) Fees, Notice 18 (opens in a new tab) (Rev. 13, from 1 July 2026) for every inspection it carries out. Those inspections are: safety checks (pink slips) for light vehicles, motorcycles, and trailers with or without brakes; safety and identity checks (blue slips) for the same vehicles; design checks, with or without a compliance certificate; and inspections of imported light vehicles and motorcycles. BST does not carry out gas inspections. The prices BST shows are its base prices, and they include GST. Additional fees may apply depending on the specifications or modifications of the Vehicle: depending on the Vehicle and its modifications, BST may need to carry out a design check, for an additional fee. An imported vehicle’s blue slip is $191 for a light vehicle and $99 for a motorcycle, Notice 18’s fees for imported vehicles, in place of the $82 and $51; these do not include the design check that an imported vehicle needs, which BST quotes on the day. BST gives the Customer a quote before it inspects the Vehicle.

PPSR check: for a blue slip, the Customer either brings a search certificate for the Vehicle from the Personal Property Securities Register (ppsr.gov.au (opens in a new tab)), or asks BST to search the register for $10, paid at the Workshop with the inspection fee. The PPSR check is not an inspection fee under the Scheme.

9. Bringing the Vehicle to the Workshop

All Services are carried out at the Workshop. BST does not collect vehicles. If the Vehicle cannot be driven in safely, BST can tow it to the Workshop on request, at a price agreed with the Customer beforehand; otherwise the Vehicle must be safe to drive in. BST takes cars, SUVs, utes, vans, motorcycles, caravans and trailers, including vehicles with modifications that meet NSW’s standard rules. BST does not inspect heavily modified vehicles. A vehicle with modifications may need a design check, for an additional fee (clause 8).

NSW permits an unregistered vehicle to be driven by the most direct or convenient route to an inspection station as part of registering it (NSW Government (opens in a new tab)). The trip is the Customer’s responsibility, including that the Vehicle is safe and that the route is direct. The Booking confirmation shows that the Vehicle is booked in with BST. It is not a permit, and BST cannot speak for how police will treat a particular trip.

A first inspection includes a brake test whenever it is safe to conduct one. The Vehicle cannot pass without passing the brake test. If the Vehicle is so unsafe that the brake test itself would be dangerous, the technician fails it without one.

At the start of the inspection, the technician reads the VIN or chassis number from the Vehicle itself and checks it against Transport for NSW’s records. If the number cannot be read or does not match, the technician will explain what the Inspection Rules require next.

The inspection record includes the Vehicle’s details, its odometer reading and its test results, and may include photographs of the Vehicle. BST uses them, and the Customer’s details, only for the inspection. Transport for NSW may ask to see these records when auditing BST.

10. Grounds for failing an inspection

The technician assesses the Vehicle against the Light Vehicle Safety Check Standards and the manufacturer’s tolerances, wear limits and specifications. The standards cover brakes, steering and suspension, wheels and tyres, body condition, lighting, the engine and driveline, fuel systems and towing attachments. If any item does not meet them, the Vehicle fails. Common reasons for failure include:

  • tyres with less than 1.5 mm of tread, or with cuts, bulges or exposed cords;
  • a light that does not work, or white light showing to the rear;
  • a cracked windscreen in front of the driver, or wiper blades that are cracked, curled, frayed or torn;
  • a brake pedal with less than 20% of its travel remaining when pressed firmly, or one that sinks towards the floor under steady pressure for 10 seconds;
  • ABS, brake or airbag warning lights that remain on, or do not illuminate when they should;
  • seatbelts that do not lock;
  • oil leaking onto the road, the exhaust or the brakes, or a leaking exhaust;
  • advanced rust in the Vehicle’s structure; and
  • a faulty horn, or mirrors, number plates or window tint that do not meet the standards.

This list is not exhaustive. The technician must also fail a Vehicle that is unsafe in a way the standards do not specifically address. Advice BST gives before the inspection, including advice based on photographs the Customer sends to BST, cannot guarantee a pass.

Unsafe vehicles: where the technician finds the Vehicle to be dangerously unsafe, the Inspection Rules require the technician to fail it as “failed dangerous” and to inform the Customer that it is not safe to use. The Vehicle must not be driven or ridden until it has been repaired. If that advice is ignored, the technician must contact the police.

11. Failed inspections

The inspection report sets out the reasons the Vehicle failed. The Customer then has 14 days to have the Vehicle repaired and inspected again:

  • the second inspection must be carried out by the same inspection station, being BST, although not necessarily by the same technician;
  • within the 14 days, the second inspection itself incurs no inspection fee;
  • after 14 days, the failed report is cancelled and the Vehicle requires a new first inspection, charged as a new inspection;
  • if the Customer instead takes the Vehicle to a different inspection station, it will be a first inspection at that station; and
  • at the second inspection, the technician checks that it is the same vehicle. If it is not, the inspection stops and BST must notify Transport for NSW.

The Customer is responsible for bringing the Vehicle back to the Workshop. The repairs may be carried out by any licensed repairer of the Customer’s choosing (see clause 7).

12. Passed inspections

BST lodges the result with Transport for NSW. A pink slip is valid for six months for the renewal of registration. A blue slip is valid for 42 days, and Service NSW asks the Customer to bring the original report when registering at a service centre. A pass does not itself register the Vehicle or renew its registration, which must still be done through Service NSW together with a CTP green slip. Once a report has been submitted, the Inspection Rules do not permit it to be changed.

13. Booking times

The Customer books a weekday and a time window: the morning (9am to 12pm), the afternoon (12pm to 4pm) or both. BST books the Vehicle in at the first free hour in that window, or otherwise at the next free hour that day, and the Booking confirmation gives that time. If every hour that day is taken, BST will contact the Customer to agree a time. The Customer should bring the Vehicle to the Workshop at the confirmed time and allow up to an hour for a blue slip, or 30 to 45 minutes for a pink slip. The time for other work is agreed with the Customer when BST provides the Quote, and depends on the work and the parts it requires.

14. BST’s reports and content

The reports BST prepares for the Customer and the content of this website belong to BST and are protected by copyright.

  • A person who receives or accesses them (the “recipient”) may download, save and print them for the recipient’s own personal reference. A report BST prepares for the Customer is for the Customer’s own use, in relation to the vehicle it covers.
  • Otherwise, the recipient must not copy, edit, sell or republish them, or pass them off as the recipient’s own or anyone else’s, without BST’s written permission.
  • An edited copy of a report is not an inspection report, a blue slip, a pink slip or any form of official accreditation. It cannot be used as one, and it does not show that a vehicle has been inspected by BST or by anyone else.

Australian Consumer Law

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures, you are entitled to a refund or replacement and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods or services repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies those rights.

Changes to these Terms

BST may amend these Terms from time to time. The Terms that apply to a job are those published on this page when the Customer makes the Booking or approves the work. These Terms are governed by the law of New South Wales. BST’s privacy policy explains how BST handles personal information.
