Transport for NSW sets the most an authorised inspection station can charge for each inspection, and the fees include GST. Here are the fees from 1 July 2026 for the inspections we do on cars, motorcycles and trailers, and what we charge.
These are from Transport for NSW’s AIS Fees, Notice 18 (opens in a new tab), Rev. 13, published 1 July 2026, for the inspections we do.
Pink slips: the safety check
- Car, SUV, ute or van: $52
- Motorcycle: $29
- Trailer with brakes: $41
- Trailer without brakes: $27
Blue slips: the safety and identity check
- Car, SUV, ute or van: $82
- Motorcycle: $51
- Trailer with brakes: $60
- Trailer without brakes: $42
Design checks and imports
- Design check, without a compliance certificate: $38
- Design check, with a compliance certificate: $58
- Imported car or other light vehicle (low volume, personal and Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme imports): $191
- Imported motorcycle: $99
A design check looks at whether the vehicle meets the design standards. It applies to some vehicles, such as a used import, a trailer or one with modifications, and we charge it on top of the blue slip. An imported vehicle’s inspection fee is in place of the blue slip’s, not on top of it: $191 for a car or other light vehicle, $99 for a motorcycle. Its design check isn’t included, and we quote it on the day. Which of these apply depends on the vehicle, so we’ll give you a quote before we do the inspection.
What we charge
Our prices are these base fees. A blue slip is $82 for a car, SUV, ute or van and $51 for a motorcycle, and a pink slip is $52 and $29.
A PPSR check isn’t one of these fees. It’s a search of a national register, not an inspection. If you’d like us to do one with your blue slip, it’s $10, or you can bring your own certificate. What a PPSR check is explains it.

Quick answers
Are these the most a station can charge?
Yes. Transport for NSW’s Notice 18 sets them as the maximum fees for each inspection.
Does my vehicle need a design check?
It depends on the vehicle. A used import, a trailer or a vehicle with modifications may need one. If yours does, we’ll give you a quote before we do the inspection.
Is a PPSR check one of these fees?
No. It’s a search of a national register, not an inspection. It’s $2 at ppsr.gov.au, or $10 when we do it with your blue slip.
